  • Brief Description: Part of of a stone coffin of normal medieval type with head recess and circular drainage hole in base was found here. The foot of the coffin had been destroyed by a drainage trench.
  • Description: Land has been levelled. Found 9ins-1ft below ground surface. Surface indications do not suggest former buildings nor have any other coffins/ burials been reported. Fragment 4ft 3ins long x 2ft 6ins to 2ft 3ins wise x 16ins deep. Stone is a soft arenaceous sandstone grit. Coffin of normal medieval type with head recess and circular drainage hole in base, but many dateable features absent. Foot of coffin has been destroyed by drainage trench. Suggestion made that it had been moved to the site for a secondary purpose. <1>
